Press Secretary

Elissa Slotkin for Michigan is searching for a dedicated, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic Press Secretary to assist with a broad portfolio of communications work. This position will start as early as May and will continue through November 2024. The Press Secretary is expected to relocate to Michigan by their start date and reports to the Deputy Communications Director. The Press Secretary will be expected to travel frequently with the candidate through Election Day.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Staff, advise, and prep the candidate for events, media availabilities, and interviews on the campaign trail.
  • Engage with reporters and media outlets on the campaign’s behalf and serve as an occasional on-the-record spokesperson.
  • Assist in planning and executing campaign media events.
  • Pitch in-state and national reporters for stories, events, and interviews.
  • Assist with drafting of press releases, media advisories, talking points, remarks, and prep memos.

Qualifications:

  • Extremely well-organized and detail-oriented.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • 3-4 years of experience working in political communications, either on campaigns, in government or at an advocacy organization.
  • On-the-record experience preferred but not required.

Compensation:

  • This is a full-time position and will require weekend and evening work, both remote and in-person work, and you may be expected to travel with the candidate, at the discretion of your manager.
  • The salary range for this position will be between $6,000 and $7,500 per month, pending experience.
