Deputy Political Director for Operations

Elissa Slotkin for Michigan is seeking a Deputy Political Director for Operations for the 2024 campaign cycle. This position, housed in the Political Department, will serve as a senior leader on the Campaign team; they will take the lead in managing the political department; and will supplement the campaign’s political relationships and presence throughout the rest of the state.

The Deputy Political Director for Operations will report to the Deputy Campaign Manager.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Oversee the day-to-day staff management and overall administration of the Political Team, in consultation with the Deputy Campaign Manager.
  • Create tracking systems, communication structures, and other internal infrastructure to facilitate the function and success of the Political Department.
  • Assist in crafting a full-cycle Political plan, including how to target affinity groups, surrogates, political stakeholders, endorsements, and other areas of support.
  • Construct stakeholder updates, and serve as the point of contact for critical allies, candidates, elected officials, and other high-level supporters.
  • Work cross-departmentally to sync key constituency and stakeholder activities with the work of other departments; support earned and paid communications activities with targeted political engagement and mobilization.
  • Build and manage relationships and coalitions with stakeholders, elected officials, partners, allies, and local grassroots organizations and leaders across Michigan
  • Other duties as assigned by the Deputy Campaign Manager.

Qualifications:

  • At least three cycles of applicable experience with political campaigns or equivalent experience with a political, organizing, elected office, electoral, or issue organization.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and writing skills – ability to formulate and build effective tracking systems, while balancing multiple priorities at once
  • Proven ability to manage relationships and communicate effectively with elected officials and key stakeholders across the state.
  • Self-starter, with strong written and verbal communication skills and strict attention to detail, and a demonstrated ability to meet goals while working on a deadline.
  • Ability to work irregular hours.

Hours and Compensation:

This is a full-time position and will require weekend and evening work, both remote and in person work, and you may be expected to travel with the candidate, at the discretion of your manager.

The salary for this position will be $8,500-9,000 per month. The candidate will have access to Elissa Slotkin for Michigan’s full suite of benefits, including health care, vision, and dental insurance, and paid leave.
